Smoking spies set to blitz pubs and clubs

Enforcement officers are to go undercover in pubs and bingo halls to catch people flouting Scotland's smoking ban which starts next Sunday. Edinburgh City Council says its officials will dress in "civvies" to spy on customers to ensure the ban is being enforced. In extreme cases, they will follow smokers home if they refuse to give their names so legal action can be taken.

I bet these 'officials' are really disappointed at having to dress in 'civvies'.

I would imagine they've spent weeks posing in front of the mirror in their nice new black uniforms with the sexy peaked caps, the manly (jack)boots and the fetching 'SS' emblems on the lapels!

Given the type of individual that would enjoy this sort of job, I'm sure they will still be easy to spot, even in mufti!

If this is what the electorate of Scotland wanted a step towards a police state, then they are heading in the right (but wrong) direction.

Yet again, our illustrious politicians are happy to spend taxpayer's money in creating completely and utterly useless, non-productive jobs.

I despair at the direction the UK is going, but they have not stopped at smoking. Already, the anti-fat food brigade are advocating banning children TV advertisements promoting high fat or sugar content foods. That sounds familiar, the anti-smoking crusade started with that weaze 7 years ago. Traffic light style warning labeling on food packaging - the floodgates of state regulation on lifestyle choices has only just begun.

If the electorate of Scotland do not kick this crowd out, then you only get the government you deserve in the end.
