M&S ban staff lighting up in uniform

Staff at Marks & Spencer have been banned from lighting up in public with their uniforms on show. Bosses barred workers from smoking outside stores a week after banning it inside company premises and vehicles. A spokesman said: "We've banned smoking on, and outside, our premises. We've also asked staff not to smoke in the vicinity of stores in their uniform as it doesn't create the right impression for customers."

Doesn't create the right impression for customers! What are they talking about? Do M&S honestly believe that customers give 2 hoots what the staff get up to when they are not at work, in or out of their uniform? So long as what they are doing whilst on a break or lunch does not offend a customer when they are at work, it should have absolutely nothing to do with anyone else.

The next thing we will hear from these nanny companies who are obviously trying to copy the nanny government is that staff cannot use the toilets without asking permission and must then be seen to wash their hands afterwards! What is this country coming too? Most of the rest of the world seem to have this issue in perspective, where has reason and common sense gone?
